Thanks to the Tweener Fund (www.tweenerfund.com), I’ve been at this ‘venture investing’ gig now for 60 days and the biggest surprise has been the prevalence of investors coming into the Triangle region from outside and investing in SAFEs. While I had heard of these, I thought they were largely a Silicon Valley thing and super early stage. I was wrong.

What I’m find is the majority of these ‘outside the Triangle investor’ investments are SAFEs and they are being used not only for early stage deals, but up and down the round sequence – basically replacing convertible notes.

Let’s get smart on SAFEs!!
